Effects of endocrine disrupting chemicals on myelin development and diseases

نویسندگان

چکیده

In the central and peripheral nervous systems, myelin is essential for efficient conduction of action potentials. During development, oligodendrocytes Schwann cells differentiate ensure axon myelination, disruption these processes can contribute to neurodevelopmental disorders. adults, demyelination lead important disabilities, recovery capacities by remyelination often decrease with disease progression. Among environmental chemical pollutants, endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are major concern human health notably suspected participate in neurodegenerative diseases. this review, we have combined current knowledge on EDCs impacts including several persistent organic bisphenol A, triclosan, heavy metals, pesticides, nicotine. Besides, presented other modulators, pharmaceuticals phytoestrogen genistein, some which candidates treating demyelinating conditions but could also be deleterious as contaminants. The direct myelinating were considered well their indirect consequences myelin, particularly immune mechanisms associated conditions. More studies needed describe effects compounds further understand underlying relation potential disruption.

Effects of Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals on Seals

At the same time harbour porpoises, that had died of a similar virus, appeared stranded on the beaches. Two years later another mass die-off occurred in the Mediterranean striped dolphin populations. The severe and lethal outcomes of the epidemics led many in the scientific community to believe that a contaminantinduced immune deficiency was responsible for the high mortality during the epidemi...

Endocrine disrupting chemicals

The idea that xenobiotic chemicals could inappropriately modlate the endocrine system thereby causing detrimental effects n wildlife and humans was first proposed 20 years ago at the atershed Wingspread Conference [1,2]. These endocrine disruptng chemicals (EDCs) have long been controversial, with a great eal of discussion raging in the scientific literature. Much of this ontroversy has centere...

Effects of Endocrine-disrupting Chemicals on Female Reproductive Health

Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are increasingly prevalent in the environment and the evidence demonstrates that they affect reproductive health, has been accumulating for the last few decades. In this review of recent literature, we present evidence of the effects of estrogen-mimicking EDCs on female reproductive health especially the ovaries and uteri. As representative EDCs, data from ...

Cryptorchidism and endocrine disrupting chemicals

Prospective clinical studies have suggested that the rate of congenital cryptorchidism has increased since the 1950s. It has been hypothesized that this may be related to environmental factors. Testicular descent occurs in two phases controlled by Leydig cell-derived hormones insulin-like peptide 3 (INSL3) and testosterone. Disorders in fetal androgen production/action or suppression of Insl3 a...

The effects of endocrine disrupting chemicals on the ovary.

Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are natural or synthetic chemicals that mimic, enhance, or inhibit endogenous hormones. In this article, we review possible targets of EDCs within the ovary and explore whether EDCs may be acting as estrogen mimics, interfering with apoptosis, altering cell signaling pathways, or affecting estrogen metabolism. Though the study of EDCs has remained controver...
